Caring for your merino garments
Buying merino clothing, blankets and sleeping bags is an investment in quality New Zealand made products. You merino garment will continue to look good and last longer by following a few care tips.
Merino is a natural wool fibre that is a little more delicate than cotton or synthetic fabrics (e.g. nylon, polyester etc).
BabyBundles uses merino that can be hand washed, machine washed on gentle cycle in cold or warm water. Merino can be dry cleaned. I recommend only using wool approved washing liquid, a very gentle washing powder or Lux soap flakes.
Do not use oxygen or enzyme based detergents like bleach, Nappy San, Oxy Action, Drive or fabric softeners. These detergents contain agents that can eat into the merino and cause holes or cause cream and white merino to appear an off yellow. Do not soak or use bleach. For baby accidents or other stubborn stains you can pre-wash the merino garment with Lux soap or gentle dish washing liquid.
Merino dries very fast. Hang on the line or if you hang your merino garment in the hot water cupboard overnight, in most cases it will be dry in the morning.
Do not tumble dry merino. It will shrink. Merino can be ironed on a low heat setting.
Regularly airing your BabyBundles blanket or merino sleeping bag will also help remove odours without needing to regularly wash the item. You can also air your blanket and sleeping bag a little by hanging it on the outside of your baby’s cot while not in use.
